Bipolar Disorder in Men

Almost six million people are affected by a psychological dysfunction called bipolar disorder. This psychological malady afflicts both men and women, but there is a stark difference with the two genders in regard to how the disorder manifests itself. Bipolar disorder in men tends to begin when they are younger compared to women. The first sign of Bipolar disorder in men is the so-called “mania” wherein manic episodes are more pronounced in men than in women. The episodes become more severe and these come in the form of men fighting with other people, shouting at the top of their voices, and drinking excessively. These acts may lead them to jail or the hospital, so this disorder is very serious indeed.

Incidentally, these manifestations of Bipolar disorder in men are typically their approach in coping with their problems, but these are counter-productive or useless. More bothersome as well is that many men do not ask the help of medical professionals or psychologists and seek solace instead with more drugs or alcohol. Furthermore, men with this problem tend to be more suicidal than the opposite sex. Among the symptoms of Bipolar disorder in men are rapid talking, too many risks, so much anger, and being very irritable.

On the other hand, Bipolar disorder in men will also manifest itself in a number of ways like low energy, depression, being restless, anxious and too much worrying, less drive and feelings of hopelessness. Bipolar disorder in men is like a Doctor Jekyl and Mr. Hyde thing and when they take drugs it will make matters worse. For this reason, this problem should be addressed immediately with no time to spare. One can imagine how disruptive the symptoms are when a man is undergoing these manic episodes more so if he took alcohol or drugs.

Mental health treatment will be the first positive step to counter Bipolar disorder in men and together with substance abuse treatment this will help doctors distinguish the disorder from those caused by the drugs. Moreover, it would also help that Bipolar disorder in men can be remedied by group counseling, individual therapy, and a detoxification program that will get rid of the drugs in a man’s system. Also, anti-depressants will be given to those who needs these badly and coupled with mood stabilizers these medications can make the difference. Bipolar disorder in men can be treated as long as they want to help themselves.

The best thing to do for bipolar patient is to get socialize more and have good time with friends and stay away from Alcohol and just try and stay positive as it definitely helps and keeps the mind healthy not to mention indulge yourself in prayer as it gives inner peace and satisfaction.
